Hi y’all! I’m Kylie (she/her), and I’m a first year health and society major! I’m from Orange County, California #OOS !!
In addition to being a social media ambassador for UT Admissions, I am also a Kappa Delta at UT! My favorite things to do are beach days, pilates classes, creating social media content, taking pictures on my film camera and, of course, getting sweet treats with friends!

Senior nursing student, Ericka Acevedo, describes UT’s culture as “...everything I ever dreamed of in a university and more.” As president of the Hispanic Nursing Student Association and a member of the Texas Lonestars spirit group, she’s found her place here on the Forty Acres.
“As a Hispanic student, I have the privilege to represent my cultural heritage and contribute to our diverse student body. I feel immensely proud to serve as a role model for younger nursing students to embrace their culture as we strive to become a part of the <9% of Hispanic nurses. At UT, every student comes from a diverse background, yet we all share a dedication to growing as individuals while embracing each other’s perspectives and ideas.”
As for what Ericka loves most about UT? The spirit. “Whether it is seeing everyone on campus bleeding burnt orange or obsessing over Bevo, such an energetic and friendly atmosphere is truly contagious once you’re here. You’re not just a Longhorn for four years, you’re a Longhorn for life.” 🤘

"Being faculty at UT Austin as an ethnic studies scholar and as a folklorist is my dream job. My students are bright and fascinated in learning about the culture and politics of their own histories. Helping them learn and write about their own stories, their family and community stories makes my job worthwhile."
September 15 - October 16 is Hispanic Heritage Month! This month, we`ll be showcasing the stories of our amazing Hispanic faculty, staff and students. We`re excited to introduce to you Dr. Rachel Valentina González-Martin, an associate professor of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies, an affiliate of the Center for Women and Gender Studies, McCombs` Center for Global Business, Latino Media and Arts Program in Radio, Television and Film, the inaugural Director of the Intersectional Humanities Initiative in the Humanities Institute in the College of Liberal Arts as well as a member of the Center for Mexican American Studies` executive board!
Since joining the campus community in 2014, Dr. González-Martin has loved learning about the varied experiences of her students, building mentoring relationships, and how they`ve brought the changing world into her office and classroom. "I am proud every day to tell people I am a scholar and teacher at the University of Texas. And being so reminds me that my little boy, who is 9 who was born in Austin just after I arrived and has been raised in and around this campus will also know opportunities I never had. That’s the gift of education, and the community we have built on and off campus has made Austin our home."
