Curriculum Requirements
Students who attend UTRGV to fulfill their CAP requirements to transfer to UT Austin will have to attend UTA for summer, fall, and spring. Below is the required course-taking pattern for a UT CAP student at UTRGV. Please note, UT CAP students at UTRGV must start in the summer and are not eligible for a fully online course load.
UT Rio Grande Valley Course List 2023-2024
Summer: must take 6-8 hours
- Students must begin classes in the Summer II – 5 Week Session. Students can 6-8 hours (two courses minimum).
- Only one course may be online or hybrid. Please note that to fulfill UT CAP requirements, UT Austin will only accept courses taken at UTRGV.
Fall: must take 9-11 hours
- Students will enroll in a minimum of nine credit hours and a maximum of 11 credit hours if necessary (three courses maximum).
- No more than two courses may be taken online or hybrid.
Spring: take 15 hours
- Students should enroll in 15 credit hours unless they will meet with 30 credit hour requirement with fewer hours (five courses minimum).
- No more than two courses may be taken online or hybrid.
Scholarships
Students who select to attend UTRGV via the UT CAP program forfeit any UTRGV scholarships. Other aid may be available for students through federal and state aid programs.

UTRGV requires students to have TSI scores on file before attending New Student Orientation and enrolling in courses.

Housing
UTRGV offers on-campus housing options on both the Edinburg and Brownsville campuses. First Time Freshmen living outside the four-county Rio Grande Valley fall under the first-year student housing policy and are required to live on campus during their first year of coursework.
