Next Steps
Complete the FAFSA by January 15
Accept Your Offer and Satisfy the Enrollment Deposit
- Visit MyStatus to accept your offer of admission and, if required, satisfy the $200 enrollment deposit to reserve your spot. The enrollment deposit is required for admitted students and serves as a payment toward your first semester’s tuition and fees.
- Information on enrollment deposit waivers is available in MyStatus.
- Haven’t turned 18 yet? Use eProxy if you need someone to complete an online process for you that requires your UT EID. Please do not share your UT EID password.
Submit Your Housing Contract
If you have already applied for housing, once you satisfy your enrollment deposit, you will be eligible to receive a housing contract beginning March 1. Contracts are awarded depending on the order in which the housing applications were received.
Register for Orientation
Orientation is required for all incoming students. It’s where you’ll learn your way around campus, meet with an academic advisor, register for classes and meet fellow classmates. Learn more about orientation dates and other related topics.
Review Financial Aid Package
Financial aid is offered on a rolling basis to eligible students who have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Once your aid package is ready, you will receive an email directing you to log in to the My Financial Aid portal to review your award.
Check MyStatus
You will be asked to submit important information such as emergency contacts, official transcripts and immunization records in the weeks leading up to orientation and your first day of class. Be sure to regularly check MyStatus to stay up to date!
Prepare for Orientation
Students should complete the following before Orientation:
- Complete the Pre-Orientation Checklist.
- Plan travel to Austin, Texas.
- Review the orientation schedule.
- Begin thinking about your Longhorn readiness and course placement.
Log In to MyUT
MyUT is the secure, personalized portal that you’ll use to get things done online. Use it to register for classes, develop degree plans, check your grades, pay bills and more!

Next Steps – International Students
In addition to the checklist above, please review the following steps to ensure you’re ready for your semester with us.
Financial Aid
- International students are not eligible for federal financial aid and should not complete the FAFSA.
- Some international students who qualify for Texas residency may be eligible for state-funded financial aid programs. These students should submit the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA).
- The recommended method is the online eTASFA, although a paper TASFA is also available. Visit the Apply page on the Texas One Stop website for instructions.
- Additional information about financial aid and scholarship opportunities for international students is available from Texas Global.
International Student “Check-In”
Before registration, you must bring your immigration documents to the International Office for Immigration Briefing and Check-In. You will meet with an adviser who will give you information and answer your questions about immigration, insurance, registration, U.S. social security number eligibility and other matters of importance.
International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS)
- The University’s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) offers information, services and programs to admitted and enrolled students who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents. Whether you come to Austin from your home country or from a school or university in the United States, you should become familiar with ISSS and its services.
- One of the things ISSS will do is send you important information about immigration requirements and regulations. If you reside outside the United States, you must apply for a student visa to enter the country. After you submit the required evidence of financial support to ISSS, the appropriate immigration document (I-20 or DS-2019) will be sent to you.
