Waitlist

UT Austin carefully and thoughtfully considers all of the information you provide when you apply. Our application review process involves the careful reading and consideration of each application. UT Austin makes final admission decisions about an incoming class only after considering all applicants, the needs of the University and its academic programs, and limitations on class size. Therefore, a reverse in admission decision is unlikely. 

Students who were not offered admission to The University of Texas at Austin or students who were offered admission but would like to be considered for a different major may join the waitlist.  

Our office will only consider waitlist candidates should space become available. Admissions decision appeals or requests for additional reviews of an application will not be accepted. 

Who Can Join the Waitlist?

• Students who were not offered admission to The University of Texas at Austin during their admission cycle.  

• Students who were offered admission to The University of Texas at Austin but would like to be considered for a different major.*

*Note: For students who have been accepted to the University, joining the waitlist will not affect admission to your current major should you not be selected from the waitlist for a different major.

During submission, you will have the opportunity to indicate whether you would like to be considered for space in the original major chosen or a different major. In addition, you can indicate interest in being considered for other programs should space become available. 

On the form, you have the option to share any academic updates in 200 words or less. If space becomes available, we may consider this additional information. Additional materials, such as letters of recommendation, continued letters of interest or other items, submitted by you or on your behalf will not be accepted or reviewed.  

Students should only submit one waitlist submission. If you need to change your waitlist form submission, you will need to cancel the original form and resubmit it. 

Review and Final Decision Process

The waitlist is reviewed as space becomes available. Admissions decision appeals or requests for additional reviews of an application will not be accepted. The waitlist is not ranked and we do not know if any space will become available or how many students will be accepted via the waitlist. 

Once a waitlist decision has been shared via MyStatus, the decision will be final.
