YOUR FIRST YEAR AT UT TYLER

Students who attend UT Tyler to fulfill their CAP requirements for transfer to UT Austin will have the option to begin taking courses during the summer immediately after high school graduation (Summer Jump Start); or students may begin courses during the traditional fall semester (Fall Soft Start).

Enrollment Requirements

30 Semester Credits selected from the Approved Course List are required for transfer to UT Austin.

Summer Jump Start students will take 1-2 courses during the summer; 3-5 courses during the fall (including mini-term and winter semester); and 4-5 courses during the spring semester.

Fall Soft Start students will take 5-6 courses during the fall (including mini-term and winter semester); and 4-5 courses during the spring semester.

Scholarships

If you attend UT Tyler as a CAP student, you are not eligible to be considered for scholarships.

Housing

Students who have completed fewer than 60 credit hours at any junior college or university are required to live on campus at UT Tyler. This requirement will be waived only for Summer 2023, and only for students enrolled entirely in on-line classes. This waiver, if needed, must be applied for using the Housing Application process as described below.

CAP students attending UT Tyler—like all other students in Texas—must complete the Texas Success Initiative requirement.

Application processing fee

If you select UT Tyler when completing your online CAP agreement, you’ll be required to pay a $60 application processing fee to UT Tyler by June 2.
